Our Sunday coaching sessions are now in full swing. From 10.30 am at Potterne Park Verwood until 12.00am. Junior membership is only £30 per season and includes all training and playing sessions. Alternatively we offer a Standing Order facility whereby those that prefer can pay the modest sum of £3 per month.
This season our efforts are primarily aimed at running teams at U15 & U16 (school years 10 & 11). However we will happily set up squads at other age groups if there is sufficient interest from the children and support from the parents.
Any parents, ex-players or others wishing to get involved in supporting the lads or assisting in coaching or other activities associated with running a rugby team will be made most welcome. For all enquires please contact Alan Rex by following the link or just turn up on a Sunday morning for a chat.

Adam Crisp made the score sheet again scoring
Verwood's first try in the left hand corner after just 5 minutes. However,
Horsham bounced straight back when Arun Thompson scored but failed to take
the lead when Jamie Gibbs conversion attempt hit the posts.
In the last ten minutes of the first half, Horsham
broke away on half way following a kick and chase by Gibbs. The ball was
gathered by Rees Holford who was tackled short of the line but he had the
presence of mind to pass inside out of the tackle to Tom Holford who scored
under the posts. Gibbs converted.
5-12 at half-time
Shortly into the second half, Horsham's second
row Ciaran Yeates suffered a neck injury which resulted in a lengthy delay
until Ciaran was taken to hospital in the new Somerset & Dorset Air
Ambulance which flew in from Yeovil being 12 minutes flying time
away. He was taken to Poole General Hospital and fortunately did not sustain
any serious injury.

Verwood u14s 34 Wellington u14s 17 Saturday 31st March 2007
This match was Wellington's first game of their weekend Dorset Tour and it proved to be a very entertaining match with no less than 9 tries being scored. See also Wellington RFC
Verwood had the better of the first 10 minutes when they persistently pressed the Somerset side’s line. It was good defence and brave first up tackles, which prevented Verwood from capitalizing on their early advantage. Verwood scored first after 12 minutes. Following a series of driving mauls, Verwood were awarded a penalty on Wellington’s 22 and elected to run. No fancy stuff here. The ball was fed to prop forward Jack Carpenter who charged up the middle. It was his bulk and strength that saw him break three tackles to score to the right of the posts.
Verwood’s tight five were now dominating the possession and Wellington had little opportunity to show their potential as they were constantly on the back foot. Both sides battled away with noone on the Wellington side dropping off or shirking tackles. On 20 minutes another penalty award, this time 15 metres out, saw tight head prop James Newboys drive over to score. Soon after, Verwood were in a similar field position following a series of rucks and mauls. Number 8, Jake Chester, drove over and Jack Carpenter was successful with the conversion. Then, just before the interval, Wellington found themselves pitched on the Verwood line. Wellington ran a penalty from 10 metres out and fed their weighty Number 8, Jake Crouch, who went over in the right hand corner.
17-5 at half time.
Despite Verwood’s half time lead and the possession and territorial advantage they had enjoyed, this was such an open game the result could still have gone either way. However, it was not perhaps unexpected that Verwood scored first. A shortened lineout in Verwood’s 22 saw Sam Bastable break free and tear down the right hand touch line. With only the full back to beat he was well tackled on Wellington’s 22. From the ensuing ruck Jake Chester picked up and drove over in the right hand corner.
Immediately from the restart, Wellington set up a ruck 30 metres out. Scrum half Alex Sydnam broke blind and fed outside centre Reg Hanson who showed great pace to out-strip the defence and score in the right hand corner.
Midway through the second half, a Wellington clearance kick was gathered by right wing Adam Crisp in his own 22. After beating two defenders, he fed inside to Sam Maguire who stretched his legs. Out of the tackle on half way he fed inside to the ever present Jack Carpenter who scored under the posts and added the conversion.
The game was fast becoming more open. Towards the end, a meandering run by Jack Carpenter saw him draw and free Adam Crisp to score Verwood’s final try in the right hand corner.
It was perhaps fitting of this occasion that Wellington scored the final try. On Wellington’s 22, the ball was turned over in the tackle. Wellington Scrum half, Alex Sydnam, who had played tirelessly, sprinted 60 metres down the left to score and add the conversion.
Verwood scorers:
Jack Carpenter (2); James Newboys; Jake Chester (2); Adam Crisp
Conversions: Jack Carpenter (2)
Wellington Scorers:
Reg Hanson; Alex Sydnam; Jake Crouch
Conversions: Alex Sydnam (1)

Verwood applied even greater pressure but were not able to put any points on the scoreboard ending the first half still seven points adrift.
The second half saw continued pressure from both teams and some frantic
play caused mainly by the wet and windy conditions making both sides fumble
passes they would normally have taken.
Within ten minutes of the restart the Verwood pack through a concerted
effort pushed the Wimborne forwards over the goal line enabling Ryan Rex
to ground the ball and earn a well earned try which Sam Maguire converted
from out wide to level the score at seven points a piece.

However, the Verwood lads continued to play in a spirited fashion and with only a minute or so left to play scored another forwards try pushing Wimborne over the goal line with the ball finally being grounded again by Ryan Rex.
Every one of the 16 Verwood lads that played gave everything they had but one or two deserve a personal mention. Jordan Gregory gave a superb first half performance, as did Dan Frost (before retiring injured), Adam Crisp made a number of try saving tackles without which the score could have been very different, Ryan Rex for his two tries and of course Dominic Fountaine for some superb runs right through the middle of the Wimborne pack and sustained effort in the rucks and mauls which earned him Man of the Match.
